All the powers in the universe are already ours. It is we who have put our hands over our eyes. — Frederic W. H. Myers
The eternal theme of human history on Earth has been that of good versus evil. We generally define good behaviour as that which is unselfish and supportive. Evil, its opposite, is then defined as behaviour which is self-serving at the expense of others.
Underlying these opposing definitions is a common principle, that of separation. Long before the time that original consciousness adopted human form, all forms of consciousness knew that they were one, that they were part of an interconnected whole. This is called unity consciousness.
Originally, humans were consciously connected to nature and also to each other, just as animals are today. For example, after the enormous tsunami that hit Indonesia in December 2004, massive numbers of dead humans were found, but no dead animals. All of the animals had been aware of the impending disaster and headed for higher ground.
You might not be aware, but you are living a ‘default’ life. The repetitive acceptance and rejection of other peoples’ ideas, beliefs, rules, behaviours, have set your resonance on default, just as in a computer program. The problem is, that on default, we’ll keep running in circles and repeating the same old behaviour that brings about the same resonance and recreates more of the same, in the absence of new information.
The source of most of our emotional pain is that we see ourselves as separate. Nothing will change until we identify the source of the separation. The world we live in today, inside and outside, reflects that we are resonating with parts instead of the whole.
From the continuous resonance between the inside and the outside, our reality is created. In the same way that our cell phones send and receive signals in the form of frequencies, our bodies are energy resonators that continually receive and transmit signals. The information we’ve integrated from the outside in the shape of different parts—family, gender, religion, culture, and so on—has become our inside and our default inner program, starting when we came into the world and increasing through our walk through life. This automatic way of thinking filters out and “separates” all information that differs from what has been programmed. In this way, we begin to send separation out to the world individually and collectively.
We are more than the parts that our limited perceptions make us believe we are. We are infinite, interconnected energy beings, and we can resonate with unlimited possibilities if we allow ourselves to do so. Since the beginning of time, this way of perceiving ourselves and the world as parts, has been our default. Still, while many ancient philosophies and indigenous cultures worldwide, live the truth, our modern religious and cultural and social structures have drawn us away from resonating with the whole and with our holistic perspective. Today, quantum science has become an ally that proves, that if we choose to resonate with energy, we can resonate with the whole. That is why it is crucial that our efforts as teachers, focus on a new perspective based on what we all have in common, rather than our differences, in order to to reach new solutions that benefit us all.
According to Werner Erhard, “Most of our notions about the world come from a set of assumptions which we take for granted, and which, for the most part, we don’t examine, or question … They are so much a part of who we are that it is difficult to separate ourselves from them enough to be able to talk about them. We do not think these assumptions—we think from them.”
We are not aware of these assumptions because most of us live on autopilot and need training to be conscious. We do not live in the ‘now’. But in reality, living consciously, once we return to it, doesn’t demand additional work on our part. We simply become conscious. From this place of consciousness, from living in the ‘now’, we can make much better and more conscious choices. This is our natural state once we can access it.
To illustrate this with another example. Imagine for a moment a diamond, the most beautiful gem you’ve ever seen. Now visualize an unending row of garbage trucks unloading, one by one, each piece of debris they carry and piling them on top of this beautiful crystal. The diamond is still there; we don’t realize this because of the mountain of refuse lying in its place. But the diamond remains exactly as it was.
The diamond represents the whole, and the garbage the parts. Imagine if we dedicated every day to sweeping away the parts integrated from others and recovering our “whole” unique brilliance. In other words, returning to our authentic selves.
To open yourself to a new resonance and to begin resonating with the whole, start becoming aware of the information you’re resonating with first. Ask yourself these questions when you receive outside information: Is this information authentic for me? Is this information helping me resonate with the whole?
In many Eastern philosophies, it’s said that we must unlearn in order to learn. The mind tends to repeat patterns; thus, it rejects any new information. If we can unlearn our divided inner parts, we’ll be able to accept additional information and eventually, reconfigure our pattern of reality to become whole.
If we all cleaned our separate perceptual lenses, our reality would be totally different, and unity would be the new language of the world.
