When we think of our bodies, we often stop at the surface of our skin. But, there is so much more to us than the physical — it’s called the aura and it is one of the aspects of our energy body. Like a personal rainbow surrounding our bodies, the aura can tell us a lot about who we are, how we are feeling, and what we are experiencing. Looking at ourselves from a broader perspective, we see that we are much more than our physical bodies. We are composed of layer upon layer of energy and consciousness.
What is the Aura?
The aura is a field of energy that surrounds all matter. It is much more than a medium or a field. It is life itself. Each layer is a body, just as real, alive and functioning as our physical body. The aura is the place where all emotions, thoughts, memories and behaviour patterns are located.
Your consciousness represents all that is possible for you to experience. All your perceptions, your senses, your thought processes and all states of being of which you are capable, happen within what is called your consciousness. The aura is an aspect of your consciousness.
Anything that has an atomic structure, has an auric field around it and we are constantly interacting with each other’s auras whether or not we are consciously aware of it.
Each layer of the aura manages a different aspect of our consciousness. While it is believed that there are more than a dozen layers of the aura, there is a focus on the main seven, each layer connecting with one of the seven major chakras.
Each energy field is unique and each person has a unique frequency. When the frequency of your aura is close to the frequency of others, there is a natural rapport. On the other hand, there are people whose auras may differ from yours and this could result in an instant dislike. This does not necessarily imply that there is anything wrong with the other person, but rather that the two frequencies are not in resonance with each other. You can learn to change and adjust the frequency of your aura with practice, in order to fit in and relate more harmoniously with others.
In the average individual the aura will extend about 3 metres around the body. It is said that the auras of the ancient masters extended way beyond this and a common depiction of many masters included the halo, a portion of the aura that is most easily seen by the average individual.
The state of the energy body is a very important element in the health of an individual, because if blockages are not cleared and healed, they can eventually manifest as physical illness or disease. Everything that happens to us, affects the aura, both negative and positive experiences.
Negative Thoughts have an Affect on the Aura
Every negative thought one has ever had, every negative word spoken, every negative action taken, has had an effect on your aura and energy body. Negative words and action taken against you, can also have a damaging effect on your aura, particularly if there is an emotional attachment. Even reading the newspapers or watching the news or a violent film, will have a damaging effect on your energy body and will lower your energy vibrations, or life-force. Fortunately we are able to replenish our life-force and of course not everything that we are exposed to, is negative or harmful. The positive experiences we are exposed to and receive, raise our energy vibrations. It is important that we avoid whenever possible, any negative contact or content.
The level of life-force in our body has an impact on our inherent healing ability, as energy helps to nourish the entire body and contributes to the healthy growth and renewal of cells. If we don’t sufficiently replenish our supply of life force energy, our energy body becomes depleted and this is when our systems become more susceptible to illness, the ageing process and even physical death, because our energy is what defines us as living beings.
Colours of the Aura
It’s impossible to think about the aura without thinking about colours. That’s because the layers are represented by colours themselves, which can show up during an aura reading or photograph. Each colour has an energy of its own that helps us get a better understanding of what our personal rainbow is trying to tell us.
- Red: Connected to the root chakra and to energies of vitality, strength, leadership, passion, success, ambition. If a muddy red, it can indicate anger.
- Orange: Connected to the sacral chakra and to energies of creativity, confidence, warmth, balance, abundance, stimulation and fun.
- Yellow: Connected to the solar plexus chakra, our centre of personal power. It can bring energies of optimism, logic, joy, inspiration and creativity.
- Green: Connected to the heart chakra and energies of growth, healing, service, harmony, acceptance, and love.
- Turquoise: Connected to the throat chakra and our ability to communicate and express ourselves effectively. Also the ability to listen and hear others.
- Indigo: Connected to the third eye or brow chakra. This is the level of our intuition, insight and imagination. The ability to visualise and think symbolically.
- Violet: Connected to the crown chakra and having a belief system. Recognising that there is a higher power.
Like a life-sized mood ring, auras can shift, based on changes in your energy, depending on how you are feeling at the time. If you are healthy, happy and feel safe, your aura will tend to expand and the colours will be bright. If you are feeling anxious, afraid, unwell and insecure, your aura will tend to contract in towards your physical body and the colours will be less bright.
While the layers of the aura shift to reflect what’s going on in your energetic orbit, some parts don’t change. This reflects the uniqueness of you. You will generally have about two dominant colours in your aura.
